In 2009, I was on a mission trip in Mexico when the Lord confirmed that he’d called me to write books. A few years prior, I’d resigned from a role as assistant pastor for a small church in Ireland, and I missed the weekly sermon preparation and delivery. I had three toddler boys and was feeling lost in the mundane repetition of the daily demands that small children can make upon their parents. I knew the Lord had given me great wisdom and insight for the application of Scripture, but I was frustrated at having no outlet. I felt like Jeremiah, with a fire shut up in my bones, and I needed to get it out.

Into that context, the Lord spoke to my heart as I was driving in a bus down the dusty streets of Mexico sharing with a friend about my desire to write. During that conversation I heard these words deep within my heart: “This is your pulpit.” He was calling me to be an author and to share the thoughts he was going to place within my mind.

I have always been a storyteller. I enjoy retelling events in a way that captivates the audience and sets them up for an inspirational conclusion. On many occasions, people have told me that they still remember one of my stories many years later. This, coupled with the analytical skills developed through my vocational life, has created the launchpad for these books.

In the years since Mexico, I’ve written many books and blogs as the Lord has continued to hone my ability to communicate effectively. Now is the time to share these words with the world. My prayer is that the words I write will cause people to think about Scripture from new angles as the Word of God transforms the lives of my readers.

Jonathan Clark is a licensed minister with Elim Fellowship in Lima, NY. He completed his studies in missions and cultural studies at Elim Bible Institute in 2000 then served as a full-time missionary and assistant pastor in the Republic of Ireland from 2001 to 2004. He holds a bachelor's degree in computer science engineering from the University of Connecticut and a master’s degree in computer science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
